IMPORTANT: Orono Planning Commission Meeting Tomorrow

There is a very important meeting tomorrow night that could dictate the future state of our beloved Summit Beach Park. The details of the Planning Commission meeting are below:

The City of Orono Planning Commission is hosting a Public Hearing regarding a private special interest group that has crafted a very detailed Proposal to build a large, permanent structure on this donated public park land. More details on this public hearing and the Proposal can be found at this link.

Friends of Summit Beach Park recently discovered an Open Space Easement that specifically outlines Bruce and Ruth Dayton's intent for their donated public lands. After seeing the Dayton's wishes so carefully and thoughtfully outlined in this easement, it is unsettling that a Proposal like this could make it as far as it has in the City of Orono approval process.

We encourage all supporters of Summit Beach Park to attend this meeting and voice their support in keeping this Park 100% accessible to the public. If you are unable to attend, please email your concerns directly to the Orono City Council, Orono City Staff, Planning Commission, and Parks Commission. Their emails are found below.
