City Council Meeting, Monday, 8/17/20, 6:00 pm.  Watch live on Comcast channels 8 & 880 or on the livestream at arvada.org/live-stream.

Recognize this? Probably not. Back in 1963, this is what City Council wanted Olde Town to become. A shopping mall!!

Luckily the citizens weren't having it. On November 5, 1963, voted down a $770,000 bond issue to cover the cost of the downtown improvements (Improvements? More like demolition) by 4,232 to 1,240. Also voted down the ordinance creating the Urban Renewal District by 4,478 to 1,317. (Source: "Arvada Comes of Age".)

So?

Olde Town is under attack again, this time by developers.

This Monday night City Council will vote on whether to allow a developer to demolish three historic houses in Olde Town and put up a 3 story sterile, modern monstrosity that belongs anywhere but Olde Town.

If allowed, you can see the dominoes starting to fall, just like we are seeing all over the metro area. Olde Town's success could lead to it's demise.

The citizens protected Olde Town then. We're relying on City Council to protect it Monday night by rejecting this development for the second time. (Yes, developers get do-overs.) They know the importance of Olde Town to the community and, we believe, will make the right call.

There is no public comment allowed but the meeting can be viewed on Channel 8 and the city website, arvada.org.

Fingers crossed for the future of Olde Town.
