The use of palm oil entails the deforestation of many forests that serve as an important habitat for orangutans and many other species of animals. But this does not mean you must give up products containing palm oil! While some big companies such as Colgate-Palmolive, General Mills, Hershey, Kraft-Heinz, Nestle, and Pepsi do not yet harvest their palm oil sustainably, there are others that do and more that will are planning to in the future! While some companies do not use palm oil at all, this poses as a bigger risk to the environment when they switch to a different oil derivative entirely. In fact, avoiding palm oil could have worse effects, and could encourage companies to use other products that may have even more impact on the environment. We have created this petition to encourage people to switch to buying from companies that produce and use palm oil in a responsible manner that respects the environment, wildlife, and the communities where it is commonly grown.
