Don't tax disability pension

Don't tax disability pension
The Issue
Soldiers who lost limbs, eyesight, hearing, or suffered permanent injuries while protecting our nation are now being asked to pay tax on their disability pension.
• This pension is not a benefit or bonus — it is compensation for lifelong pain and sacrifice.
• For over 100 years, India has kept disability pensions tax-free as a mark of respect and gratitude.
• The new proposal unfairly taxes those who bravely continued serving till retirement despite their injuries.
• A disability does not disappear after retirement — the struggle lasts a lifetime.
• Many disabled veterans cannot take up jobs and depend entirely on this pension to support their families.
• The government saves very little money, but the emotional and moral cost to our soldiers is enormous.
• Taxing the wounded sends a heartbreaking message: sacrifice is being penalised.
• This decision hurts the dignity, morale, and trust of the entire Armed Forces community.
Our Appeal
Do not tax the injured.
Do not penalise sacrifice.
Withdraw the amendment and keep disability pensions fully tax-exempt for all disabled veterans.
They gave their bodies for the nation. The least we can give them is respect and security.
