Pre-1922 Justice Project Update: Our Submission Has Reached the Oireachtas Justice Committee
Our submission challenging Ireland’s blanket exclusion of pre-1922 convictions from the 2026 pardon policy is now before the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Migration for consideration.
This does not mean the policy has changed or guarantee what the Committee will do next, but it DOES mean this issue has now reached the parliamentary committee responsible for justice matters. That matters.
And this isn’t just about my family and their case. This policy affects every Irish family whose history falls on the other side of that 1922 cutoff. Families may still be carrying old stories, unanswered questions, court records, witness statements and evidence that deserves to be examined. Those families deserve the opportunity to be heard too.
Irish history has taught us the power of standing together. That’s how we got the word “boycott.” That fighting spirit didn’t disappear with our ancestors.
So many Irish voices were silenced under Crown rule before 1922, and I will not stand by and watch that history be buried beneath a blanket policy written by the Irish Government in 2026. Not when records still survive, evidence still survives and questions still survive.
The Irish Government can draw a line at 1922, but that doesn’t make everything on the other side of that line disappear.
We will fight a policy that tells us this evidence is too old to matter.
This is progress, but this fight is far from over.

The Crown silenced enough Irish voices back then. I will not stand by and let the Irish Government silence their history and evidence with a blanket policy in 2026.
