Meeting arranged with FSA Chair Professor Susan Jebb.
We have arranged a short virtual meeting with the new chair of the Food Standards Agency (FSA) Professor Susan Jebb on Monday 27th September to discuss our concerns over the Agency’s Future Delivery Model.
After reading relative recent FSA consultations etc. in relation to food, we believe this model will eventually lead to third party assurance across the whole of the food chain, that is not independent or impartial and will effectively leave the food industry to mark their own work in terms of food safety and standards.
This in turn, we believe, will then lead to imports and trade deals that are not in the best interest in relation to public health.
Whilst a powerful lobby in the food industry are in favour of this model, it will also mean that our own farmers and the public will suffer in the long term.
Given that recent research and also your support in this petition has indicated that the public want to keep or improve our food standards, it appears the government and the FSA are not willing to keep promises about not lowering food safety standards.
What the Government appear to be doing is making cuts little by little hoping you won’t notice, but when you add the sum total it becomes a lot.
As we are told by Government that we can now make our own laws, if we get them wrong we now clearly know where the responsibility lies.
We will of course let you know how we get on after the meeting in an update.
Thank you for your continued help and support and stay safe.
