Petition updateDon't risk lives - Keep meat inspections independent
ONCE AGAIN ANOTHER MEAT RECALL AND A DISAPPOINTING SUPERMARKET REPLY.
Steve NashHayes, ENG, United Kingdom
Feb 12, 2018
ITN last night, reported on it’s evening news, that another recall of meat has occurred after a tip off led the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to carry out an inspection of a meat supplier.
The meat supplier, whose customers include restaurants and pubs such as Nando’s, Wetherspoons, Jurys Inn and Green King, voluntarily
recalled their meat, after what appears to be failing to label the meat properly.
The FSA is reported to be going to take no enforcement action against the company, as it has agreed to change procedures, and will therefore be allowed to keep trading.

WAITROSE
Waitrose responded to our letter dated to them of 01-02-2018, on 05-02-2018. Their response is below:
“Dear Mr Nash, thank you for your letter to our managing director, Rob Collins - he's asked me to respond on his behalf.
In reference to your concerns regarding FSA's course of actions, we are unable to comment on this matter and for this I can only apologise.
Please be assured as Waitrose partners, we want to know where our food comes from, how it has been produced and what it contains.
It all starts with long-term relationships with our farmers and suppliers, and continues with our beliefs in championing British produce, supporting responsible sourcing, treating people fairly and treading lightly on the environment. We are happy with the relationships we build with our suppliers.
Thank you again for your letter Mr Nash, I wish you a good rest of the week.
Kind Regards
Case Manager, Executive Office
Case Reference 04462673”
Yet another disappointing response, however you cannot single out Waitrose as their reply is much the same as Aldi, Lidi, Marks & Spencer, Tesco & Sainsbury’s.
The supermarkets, I believe, appear to be in a state of denial about the problems in the meat industry.
THE CO-OPERATIVE
We sent our letter to the Co-op’s Chief Executive, Mr S Murrells on
11-1-2018, and are still awaiting a response.
ASDA
On the 8th February, we sent our eighth Supermarket letter to Mr R Burnley, Chief Executive of Asda (this letter is the same as sent the previous week to Waitrose).
Please keep on using Twitter or Facebook, to promote this petition.
It appears that the meat industry keeps on falling in relation to meat hygiene, and this is putting pressure on the FSA. The more pressure the FSA and supermarkets are put under, the greater the chance that better consumer protection will follow.
Thank you all so much, for your continued comments & support.
You have been fantastic!
