Thank you all for your interest in how the city council vote went regarding the Wycliffe Development. The end result was that the district councilman Chris Taylor's motion to deny the application (seconded by Jennifer Rouse) was substituted by his colleagues' motion to approve. The motion was made by Dr. Ross-Hammond and seconded by Vice Mayor Wilson who both stated that they wanted to see the lake protected, in writing. The developer's attorney said the city does not want the lake. The city attorney said there is a 10 foot public easement that already exists. This motion was shuttled along and approved by 7 city council members. Therefore, there is currently NO written protection for Lake Conrad 2, despite the verbal commitment given by two council members. We hope they will correct this.

On the brighter side, the developer plans to sell the lake portion of the property to another church. We don't expect this church to want to harm this natural habitat at all. In fact, they have expressed their appreciation for the community's love for the property!! They have stated that they want the community to feel a sense of ownership of this property as well as ownership in their church. They want to retain a path around the lake and a playground for the neighborhood children. We sincerely look forward to this new relationship. What a blessing to this incoming church, to Lake Conrad 2, and to the Great Neck Estates neighborhood!!

We will keep you updated on improvements to the lake protections in hopes that we can generate a template for other neighborhoods that will face these concerns in the future. We could not have reached this point without all of your voices, actions, donations, and prayers. Our work is not done!
