Lake Conrad 2 is one of Virginia Beach's Storm Water Management Facilities. Your tax dollars have paid to run pipes off of Great Neck Road into the "wetpond." WE taxpayers have paid for trees to be removed around the lake, even within the past year. WE have paid for the dredging of the pond to remove sediment and overgrowth to ensure the SWMF can do it's job. Your tax dollars are currently being used to study the water quality of the lake. In addition, our city government has received funding by the federal and state government to install a water filtration system in order to comply with requirements because this lake is identified as one of the city's MS4 Receiving Waters. But when the city approves a plan that includes filling in this Lake, who benefits? We tax payers voted for a Flood Referendum in Nov 2021 to increase our taxes to expedite stormwater drainage improvements. Part of that agreement was a commitment by the city not to increase demand on our stormwater facilities. The Planning Commission and City Council have an obligation to us, the people they pledged to serve, to say no to any plan that would destroy one of the SWMF that we have invested in for decades. If you agree, please sign and circulate this petition. Please also write the Planning Commission and City Council and sign up to speak this Wednesday. Agenda Item #6.
