Petition updateDon't let Canada Post end door to door delivery / Sauvons la livraison à domicileUpdate on Petition

I wanted to send a quick update to let you all know we are still working hard to convince the government not to cancel home mail delivery, and we’ve got lots of momentum!
First, we passed 150,000 signatures!! When I started this petition because I felt Canada Post hadn’t considered what this decision would mean for people dealing with reduced mobility, like me and my son Matthew who has cerebral palsy, I wasn’t sure anyone would care. I never dreamed so many people would join the fight! It’s truly amazing, and it gives me hope that everyday people can come together to stand up for what’s right. Thank you all so much for your support, for your encouraging messages and comments, and for sharing the petition with all your friends.
And we are getting noticed! Not only have Canadian media been covering our campaign, but I’ve also had interviews by the British, Russian, and Chinese media. The whole world is watching and wondering if Canada will really become the first developed country in the world to end home mail delivery. Well, not if we have anything to say about it...
I’ve also been working with other groups dedicated to this fight, including the Canadian Union of Postal Workers which has been working tirelessly to reverse this decision. You may have also seen that many cities and towns across Canada are fighting back as the government gets set to build the new superboxes nobody wants - over 70 municipalities have spoken out or adopted motions against the plan. Just last week, the mayor of Westmount, Quebec had a great idea: he said he would refuse to issue building permits required for the new mailboxes!
The pressure is really building, and we’ve got to keep it up! Here’s what you can do to help:
1. Write or call your own mayor or city/town council asking them to publicly oppose the plan to end mail delivery. Like I said, many mayors and councils are already looking for ways to stop the superboxes and save home delivery - make sure yours is one of them, and that your local representatives know you expect them to fight back against the federal government too;
2. Please keep sharing the petition with everyone you know, on Facebook and twitter, by email, or just by asking people go online and visit www.change.org/CanadaPost. Just imagine if we could get up to 200,000 signatures in time for when Parliament returns in September! They don’t want to deal with us, but if we can get enough support and keep our fellow citizens and the media talking about this, they’ll have no choice.
Thanks again,
Susan
