It appears that a Task Force is being prepared in Vancouver and Surrey to descend upon Universal Ostrich Farms and cull their Immune Ostriches in the next few days, according to what reliable sources have told the farmers. (https://x.com/DreaHumphrey/status/1962685247256174895
The Ostriches have been symptom free for 230 days (nearly 8 months). Based on over a century of research into immunology, it is essentially 100% certain that these birds have developed immunity and are no longer at risk of spreading the virus (and such has been the case for months already).
Despite encouragement from numerous experts, researchers, scientists, and politicians, the CFIA refuses to change their stance, and cleaves doggedly to their unyielding, one size fits all, "stamping out policy".
Despite what any reasonable, rational person can see, namely that these Ostriches are clearly healthy, happy and free of disease, the CFIA still insists on culling them. Based on a century of research into immunology, these Ostriches pose no more risk of spreading the virus now then they did before some got sick, and yet still no willingness to be flexible from the CFIA.
There is no other way to frame it : this is a case of the Canadian Federal Government refusing to act with logic, justice, or compassion. It is frankly disgraceful.
But, it is still, at the 11th hour, not too late for Government to do the right thing.
Please consider calling and emailing the list of officials below, and encouraging them do everything in their power to stop this travesty, and preserve what could be a true boon to humanity for discovering a vaccine to H5N1 that could save both avian and human lives.
