Today, the day of the 800m women athletics at 10:55 am (Rio time) / 1:55 pm (UTC), I've finally closed the petition. Though the participation of Yuliya Stepanova was highly unlikely since the beginning of the Olympic Games, it is now definite. Furthermore the end of the petition should remind, that today's starting grid is incomplete, that we are missing a key runner! And we, we are 275.000, that means over a quarter of a million, supporters all over the world. Maybe a good opportunity to remind the world again with #onewomanmissing. I also had the honour to participate in that call but I don't want to talk too much about the content, because all the major print and online media have reported about that. But I would like to mention, that Vitaly in his opening statement explicitly named the Petiton and said thank you to all of you, the supporters. Though both of them together with their child are safe now, they are still depending on the donation from the crowdfunding campaign. Therefore I would like to mention again, also because of my private conviction, the website http://www.future-stepanov.com and the connected crowdfunding campaign http://www.ibelieveinyou.ch/stepanovs What happens next? I do not know, yet. After such a campaign with this overwhelming response from your side, I feel very connected to that topic, of course. That means I will continue following that issue, reporting about it and support it as good as possible. Because I will still be able to send campaign updates even after closing the petition, I probably use this channel to provide information for all you people interested in, especially when the media attention has naturally decreased.
