This is an update regarding efforts to oppose the conversion of the Opportunity House at 1411 Asheville Highway into a daytime homeless shelter/center. Thank you to all as your dedication and commitment to this cause have been truly inspiring. Here are some recent developments:
Media Coverage: Our petition has gained significant attention after WLOS recently featured an article about the opposition to this project. This exposure has helped raise awareness. Here is the link to the article - https://rb.gy/gq6jly
Neighborhood Canvassing: Many dedicated neighbors have taken to the streets, canvassing the surrounding neighborhoods to inform residents about the potential impact of the proposed shelter.
Direct Communication: Concerned citizens have been proactive in reaching out to the Mayor and members of the City Council through emails, phone calls, and written letters.
All of these efforts have shined a bright light on this proposed plan and brought our concerns to the forefront. As a result, this issue is NOT on the February 7th agenda for the Hendersonville City Council meeting. As the city digs deeper into the viability of the Hendersonville Connections Center purchasing the Opportunity House property, we will keep you informed as to when it gets added to the agenda for the City Council.
