Dear Signers,
I feel like I’m at the cusp of a breaking point. Taking heart from your immense support and the National Commission for Women taking cognisance of my case, on 9 Dec, I filed a complaint at the local police station in Lakhimpur Kheri, against the administration of Uma Devi Children’s Academy. But no headway seems to have been made.

The police haven’t even filed an FIR based on my complaint so far. And I don’t know anything about the investigation that was supposed to happen, based on the NCW’s notice to the Chief Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh government.
Such is the plight of transgender people in this country, that even in my misery, people never forget to remind me that I should “count my blessings”. “At least your family is supporting you. For transgender people who’ve been ostracised by their families and can’t find a job, the only means to earn money is begging and prostitution. Thank god, your family supports you,” some of my ‘well-wishers’ console me this way.
This is the abject reality being faced by transgender people in India. Our income prospects are so diminished, that even fighting for justice seems like an unaffordable expense. Should I even pursue this any further? Or should I just focus my energies in finding another job? Most transgender people are anyways accustomed to day-to-day discrimination. How would I be any different than them?
I’m taking the advice of some well-wishers and mulling over whether I should pursue this legally. In the meantime, I’d like for more journalists to report my story, and for you, the signers of my online petition, to share it within your networks. Your support helped me step out of the dark and bring my fight to the public fora. Help me keep up the momentum for this campaign.
