Change Magnolia Gateway Monument to Historic Park City, instead of Magnolia

The Issue

Historic Park City was incorporated in 1907 and was annexed by the city of Knoxville in 1917. Unlike Fountain City, which was never incorporated but has worked to maintain its identity, Park City was and remains an important part of Knoxville’s identity. Indeed during its short 10 years as a city it hosted the Appalachian Exposition, in addition to two national expositions at Chilhowee Park with visitors including Presidents Teddy Roosevelt and William Howard Taft. To honor the memory of important Knoxville leaders who built this fine city, it is important that we not forget that it existed. We therefore petition the city of Knoxville to name the proposed signage “Historic Park City” to honor this important legacy.
