The recent news of multiple racist, bigoted, misogynist, and xenophobic social media posts by School Board member David Kirk were more than just one person's political view, they were disturbing, inappropriate and do not reflect the values of our community.

We are asking that David Kirk voluntarily step down from the School Board, and if that does not happen then the Board needs to have him removed from the Board.

In addition, we urge the Board to undertake ongoing, regular anti-racist training for its members and district staff.

In a community that celebrates its multiculturalism on the playing field and in the classroom, this kind of openly hostile behavior to students, their families, and their many friends and neighbors is not welcome on the board that oversees the most diverse school district in the state.

People are welcome to their personal, political views - but these posts went beyond that and were hurtful, and have the potential to incite violence and cause harm to members of our community. Hate does not have a home here.

Our community is stronger because of its diversity and many cultures.
