The Issue

TO HONOR OUR OWN
Khalil Wiggins, a national recording artist, original member of the Section 8 Mob, also known as Montana (stage name) and fondly known in the local music community as Big Lyl, suffered multiple gunshots wounds and died in his home, on December 30, 2016, after being shot by three masked men.

Although he was shot at his home in Capitol Heights, Md. Khalil Wiggins (Big Lyl) was born and raised in the hometown of Washington DC on Montana Ave. NE hence the beloved stage name given by his fans “Montana”.

From Montana Ave. NE, Khalil went on to become one of DC’s most prominent rap pioneers. He was one of the original member of DC’s own Section 8 Mob, the first group to sign a major record deal. He’s contribution to this city also include him representing and starring in a short-film with Morgan Freeman about ending senseless gun violence. Khalil would often be found helping to develop the positive talents of other young aspiring artist from the DC area. Ironically, one of his last post to social media was a call for us to find more solutions to “stop this senseless violence in our city streets”.

We are asking our elected city officials and local ANCs to rename the street (Montana Ave) where he grew-up to Khalil Wiggins Way, in honor of the contributions he made to his community, his family and DC.

Please sign the attached petition requesting a Ceremonial Resolution and Street Naming in honor and memory of our own – Khalil Wiggins.

Thank you,

Family & Friends of Khalil Wiggins
