Today, March 28, 2018.
Justin went into court today, 5 years after his arrest, to plead with the court to lift his bond restrictions. He was asking for permission to go on the internet, to secure a better job. His attorneys reached across the aisle asking the DA's office, once again, to dismiss the case. This time their answer was, offer us a deal. His attorney asked for a Class C misdemeanor, the equivalent of a traffic ticket, and the DA's rejoinder was, a class A misdemeanor with time served and no probation. Justin has wanted this case to be over for years. In the interest of just being done, he signed guilty to a Class A misdemeanor. This means he is not a felon or a terrorist for the rest of his life. He pled guilty to False Report, a catch all misdemeanor. I'm elated that this is over. His whole family is. We're all a little shocked by how this long journey has so abruptly ended. I want to THANK every single one of you who signed this petition, who left comments, who bought t-shirts, ranted about this case on social media, showed up at court, and who stood behind and beside us all these years. We stood up for Freedom of Speech and though we didn't get the victory lap of winning a trial and setting a precedent; Justin won his life back. Thank you, thank you, thank you from all of us. Please don't ever forget, standing up for what's right can be difficult but never give up!!
