DISCRIMINATORY SUBSIDIZED EDUCATION CAPS FOR PRIVATE TERTIARY INSTITUTION STUDENTS
The Issue
As a student impacted by the shifting policies of the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF), I am deeply concerned about the recent changes that are affecting my ability to pursue higher education. When I signed my contract with NSFAF, I was assured of financial support for the full duration of my programme. However, without prior notification, I, along with countless other students, have been thrust into financial uncertainty as we are now expected to cover tuition shortfalls out of pocket due to NSFAF's failure to pay full tuition fees, as know they caps tuition funding to $24000.00.
This unexpected shift from a loan-based support to a subsidy or grant model was poorly communicated, leaving many of us scrambling to secure additional funding at a critical point in our education journey. This situation not only jeopardises our academic progress but also adds significant stress, as we struggle to balance studies with financial worries.
Private institutions are now requiring students to "top up" their tuition fees, further compounding the financial burden. This new arrangement was not a part of the original agreement and threatens to bar many deserving students from continuing their studies if they cannot meet the additional costs.
This issue is not just personal to me, but affects a broad demographic of continuing Namibian students who are reliant on NSFAF for educational opportunities. It is critical that NSFAF and relevant authorities review this decision, as it contradicts the original funding agreements and is detrimental to the future skilled workforce of Namibia.
We urge the Namibian government and NSFAF to rectify this situation immediately. Concrete steps must be taken to ensure that NSFAF fulfills its original funding promises. Additionally, any future policy changes, especially those impacting continuing students financially, should be communicated transparently and effectively, ensuring that students can plan and prepare accordingly. As a student nurse ,I’m already struggling to settle all my expenditures regardless of non-tuition fee that i get. In the $2400.00 no-tuition fee that i get cannot accommodate my taxi fee for a month ,whole year, rent and food.
Please support this petition to help hold NSFAF accountable and restore the financial support that is crucial for the success and stability of Namibian students. Your signature can make a significant difference in urging those in power to reverse these funding changes and uphold their commitments to students across the nation. Sign the petition to ensure no student's education is compromised due to a lack of funding transparency and support.
