Increase Attendance at CWHS and DCHS Graduations
The Issue
On behalf of Creek Wood High School and Dickson County High School students and their families, we as members of our community are signing this petition in an effort to have more friends and family members attend our high school graduation. Since the beginning of the school year, there have been many school sponsored events where students, their families and friends, and members of the community have supported Dickson County Schools, particularly sporting events, where social distancing and mask requirements have not been stringently enforced.
We believe that the rule of only 4 guests per graduate should be reconsidered. Since the Class of 2020 graduated, we have learned much more regarding COVID-19. We believe that following the same guidelines that were set last year does not take into account factors such as: vaccinations with an over 95% success rates (where the age group at highest risk in our community has had the opportunity for vaccination), a three-foot social distancing recommendation set by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (compared to the previous six-foot social distancing recommendation), and a county infection rate of less than 1%. We hope that the use of facts regarding COVID-19, the social distancing maximum capacity for both football stadiums, a community coming together and standing up for each other, and petitioning for the proper recognition of our many achievements throughout high school, that the Dickson County School Board will reconsider the availability of tickets at CWHS and DCHS class of 2021 graduation.
The “sport” of learning and celebrating our accomplishments is equally as important to our community and deserves equal consideration for recognition and participation for our family, friends, and community.
