DFO recently announced a drastic drop in the Strait of Georgia herring population, and there is a real danger of over-fishing this precious remaining stock. The survival and well being of our marine ecosystem in the Salish Sea depends upon these herring.

MP Gord Johns has drafted this Parliamentary Petition calling for a closure of the Salish Sea Herring Fishery in 2020, until an ecosystem-based management plan is developed, fishermen are compensated and First Nations rights recognized.
