Reinstate the 82nd Avenue of Roses Parade!

Reinstate the canceled 82 Avenue Parade! This Parade, the kick-off event of the Rose Festival season is an integral cultural event for our neighborhood! It's a parade packed with economic and cultural diversity and accessibility. It's filled with children dancing, singing, and marching their hearts out. This parade recognizes our community as rightful and included citizens in Portland. It is a parade that celebrates our communities which are often viewed as cultural and economic "outsiders" in Portland.
The parade was shut down, seemingly without any input from us, the community, because of concerns of threats of violence in response to the alleged participation of fascist marchers with the Multnomah County Republic Party. However, the City has confirmed that there will be ample security. Furthermore, there are many ways to deal with safety concerns nonviolently and creatively.
Here is what we ask:
1) That our beloved parade be reinstated immediately for this Saturday, April 29th;
2) That the 82nd Avenue Business Association address the concerns related to hate speech and work directly with the MCRP to prevent marchers with hateful, discriminatory, or biased messaging from using the Parade as a platform for that messaging;
3) That the MCRP be good neighbors and monitor its own marchers to proactively exclude those who wish to use the parade to promote hateful, biased, exclusionary messaging against immigrants, the queer community, communities of color and other marginalized groups;
4) That Rise Up, the Direct Action Alliance and/or any other group refrain from committing and/or threatening to commit violence or damage during the Parade.
