Thank you again for signing the petition for more NHS dentists, and thank you especially to the thousands of people that took part in the survey. It highlighted just how many of us are struggling with dental care and want to help make a difference.
I have some exciting news - your story could be told on the BBC! A journalist wants to film some people talking about their bad dental experiences. Could this be you?
You need to live within 1-2 hours of Leeds, Bristol or Salford, and you need to be happy being filmed. I’m assured this will be done very sensitively, because I know talking about this stuff isn’t always easy. And it won’t be live, so you don’t need to get it perfect, they can record you speaking a few times :) I’m going to be filmed too.
The stories which the BBC are most interested in are:
- DIY dentistry – extreme measures people are taking because they can’t afford treatment or can’t find or access an NHS dentist.
- Families where most of them have not seen a dentist in many years, as there is no NHS practice near them accepting patients.
- Young people with missing teeth saying that this is affecting their life/job prospects.
- Children with awful toothache/missing teeth.
- Patients travelling hundreds of miles to see an NHS dentist
- Patients waiting a ridiculously long time on a waiting list to get an NHS appointment
If this sounds like you, or something you would want to take part in to help raise the awareness of this issue too, please send an email to my campaign email address at, morenhsdentistsnow@gmail.com which Change.org are helping me with. Sorry for the urgency but please do this within the next few days!! Then we can get the ball rolling with the reporter who is keen to publish this issue.
Many thanks again!
