Last week, Roxbury Township was informed through court documents that the Department of Homeland Security has advised the court that it once again intends to move forward with plans to consider the retrofitting of the warehouse and has removed the property from the federal government's excess property list.
From the very beginning, our position has been clear and consistent. We will continue to use every legal, legislative, and political tool available to protect the people, property, and resources of Roxbury Township. This latest development does not change our position or alter our course. Our case remains active, and we will continue pursuing every available legal remedy on behalf of our community.
Roxbury Township is extremely disappointed by this reversal, and our residents have demonstrated remarkable patience and resilience throughout this process.
No one on Roxbury Township’s Council knows why DHS reconsidered its previous position, but we are confident that this decision was not the result of any action, request, comment, or change in the position of Roxbury Township.
As we have consistently said, nothing is final until the legal process has run its course. We will continue moving forward with the goal of preventing this facility from being built in Roxbury Township while protecting our people, property, and resources. Our commitment has not changed. We will continue acting in the best interests of our residents and working tirelessly toward a successful outcome for our community.
