Immediately upon taking office, on January 20, 2021 President Joe Biden issued a Proclamation  that cancelled former President Trump's declaration of emergency that had diverted funds to construction of the US-Mexican border wall. 

However, it's important to remember that, under President Obama, many of the same issues that fueled the border controversy existed - separation of children, deportation of asylum seekers  , and a general failure to follow the guidelines established by law that protect the rights of undocumented immigrants. These issues have not gone away.

Thanks to all of you who signed the petition. It has been updated to include Tracy Renaud as the new acting Director of  the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. It is hoped that she will recommend this alternate approach to border security for its humanitarian, employment, infrastructure  and fiscal responsibility benefits.
