As most you probably already know, the situation that happened at DF Malan High School on Monday has gained widespread media attention over the past few days. I can't help but think that it is partly because of the overwhelming support all of you have given for this petition.
On a news segment aired by eNuus, André Roux (a governing body representative) apologised on behalf of the school, saying that "we are extremely sorry that we mismanaged the situation in such a way that it led to this". He also stated that the school is working on cultivating a more inclusive environment and that ways to hold future celebrations of Pride Month are being looked into, and that the action will be taken against the homophobia that was experienced on Monday. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is also looking investigating the situation.
I sincerely want to thank you all for your support so far. This couldn't have happened without all of you, and we will continue to rally against queerphobia and discrimination in educational institutions across the country.
