We still need your help to end child and youth homelessness!

Thank you so much for joining our call for a standalone National Child and Youth Homelessness and Housing Strategy.
We’ve just reached 4300+ signatures, but we need to keep the momentum going to ensure the Federal Government recognises the importance of unaccompanied child and youth homelessness.
The recently released 2021 Census data revealed that nearly a quarter (23%) of people experiencing homelessness were children and young people aged 12-24. Read our media release available on our website for our full response to the Census numbers.
Now is the time to strike, given the government’s commitment to developing a National Housing and Homelessness Plan. But it’s not enough to simply name children and young people as a priority cohort. They need a standalone homelessness and housing strategy that reflects the realities of children and young people experiencing homelessness on their own. This is a reality where one in two young people presenting alone to a youth homelessness service will not get a bed in a refuge. We need to ask ourselves: where are they going? Are they returning to violent homes? Couch surfing? Sleeping rough?

It will take a whole of government and community approach to end child and youth homelessness in Australia. We cannot wait until the next Census to reveal another increase in the numbers, we must act NOW.
