Canadians’ national pride has surged in response to threats against the country’s sovereignty, with a recent poll indicating that nearly eight in ten respondents (78%) believe Canadians share distinct values that set them apart from Americans (source: Catherine Morrison, The Canadian Press). These shared values can be further strengthened across the country—coast to coast to coast and from south to north—by ensuring equitable access to goods, services, and a comparable standard of living for all.
Currently, there is a geographic divide in living standards, which must be narrowed to a more acceptable level. This requires expanding development infrastructure and built environment amenities northward while fostering the growth of new, affordable, and sustainable cities in isolated northern regions. By strategically developing regional cities, Canada can create thriving, self-sustaining communities that provide essential services and economic opportunities.
This petition envisions a future where regional cities play a key role in bridging these disparities and fostering a more inclusive and prosperous Canada.
