Good Morning, (16/04/19)
Despite this petition focusing around Derby College, the issue of fair pay is widespread in the UK. When I was doing some research online I saw headlines such as: "UK teacher recruitment crisis" and "Teachers leaving due to low pay." Statistically, the UK has not got enough teachers. This is due to many factors such as the high workload and insufficient remuneration (money paid for their work). According to a YouGov poll: 53% of teachers consider leaving their jobs and 11,000 young teachers actually leave during training (this is also 3x more than it was six years ago). It just goes to show how important it is for teachers to get fair pay. One advantage would be the great impact it would have on future recruitment but the other is simply because they deserve that recognition. For the extra hours they put in marking and planning lessons and to not get recognised for it in their pay is truly heartbreaking. Especially when a survey in 2018 said: 98% of teachers inspire or positively impact their students.
The least they can get for that is a fair pay.
