The team was operationally suspended this past 2023-2024 season which was one of the factors for a slight dip in revenue generation for local businesses in town. This tragic domino effect resulted in loss of highly touted recruited players from around the global, local sponsors severing partnership ties and most importantly - the termination without warning of the ICE CONTRACT with Town of Gravenhurst at Graeme Murray Arena.
Now we've received news that despite these setbacks, GMHL has given full reinstatement for play in October for the 2024-2025 season. But without a place to call home, as #TheShield has had in downtown Gravenhurst since 2006, the team will be forced to cease operations and end the historic 18 year run as ‘One of Only 3 GMHL Original 7 Clubs Still In Operation’.
We believe in fair play both on and off the ice rink. We believe that false accusations should not tarnish an individual's or team's reputation or impact an entire community so deeply rooted in hockey culture.
We call upon the Town of Gravenhurst to review this case once more with fairness and transparency at its core; reinstate #TheShield’s ice contract so Ownership can lead us into another thrilling season; restore faith among community, league, players, sponsors; to negotiate new successful terms with the Town of Gravenhurst for ice contract renewal.
