Catcalling: A Threat to One's Dignity

We respectfully call everyone's attention to raise awareness about catcalling. Lots of posts about people being catcalled and sexually harassed has surfaced sites such as Facebook. It is a signal that it must be brought to everyone's attention due to problems caused to its victims.
Many petitions related to catcalling and sexual harassment are created. However, the government and the society hasn't done anything to support these or to possess needed aspects to avoid catcalling anyone.
Catcalling promotes rape culture and it could even happen to anyone, It isn't selective to gender, the victim's outfit and actions. It is a form of sexual harassment and could traumatize its victims. It is a social dilemma since it could affect the victim emotionally. Catcalling is a threat to the society and discriminatory to the victims since some people think it's their fault for being victimized.
According to stopstreetharassment.org (2016), "88% of women ages 18 to 24 experienced sexual harassment at least once." There may be less studies about men who get catcalled and sexually harassed, but this does not mean that they don't experience it.
Some people may think of it as a joke or a compliment but to the victim, it is more than just a silly comment. These remarks could degrade the victim and cause fear of going to public places due to the possibility that it could happen to them again.
Some may also think that catcalling is not a form of sexual harassment since they take it lightly. However, it is. Victims may feel unsafe due to the stares or hisses. They've done nothing to provoke them but it still happened.
They don't feel flattered by their lewd comments, their winking and anything related to catcalling. But, it is a threat to the victim's dignity because they feel violated. They feel disrespected.
Catcalling could affect anyone for days or months. Especially if people are resorting to victim blaming, they'll feel that it's their fault for being catcalled. This is why we shouldn't be satisfied with the world the way it already is.
We are calling the attention of the government and people to have an ANTI-CATCALLING ORDINANCE throughout the country. So, the citizens would feel safe while travelling or stop the victims from feeling worthless because they're blamed for being catcalled.
Please sign this petition to stop catcalling and halt the promotion of rape culture. We should restore respect among one another and let the people feel safe from sexual harassment.
