We, the citizens of Columbus, MS, want the money rightfully due to us.

The Issue

The purpose of this petition is to seek a measure of justice in an environmental mass tort that has affected the lives of thousands of people in the small rural community of Columbus, Mississippi. During the early 1960’s and 1970’s a chemical plant, the now defunct Kerr-McGee, released chemicals in a predominantly African American community that killed children and left many adults throughout the years being diagnosed with unexplainable forms of cancer at an alarming rate, birth defects, kidney failure, liver damage and many, many more harmful diseases. The citizens of Columbus were awarded nearly $300 million (possibly an inaccurate figure) in compensatory damages.

The trust fund is now being managed by the Garretson Resolution Group for almost three years. We, the citizens, feel strongly that this company is discriminating against us because the affected area is predominantly African American. Some residents have died and never received monetary damages for their illnesses and others are still awaiting compensation.

We are outraged at the untimely response and unfair treatment by the Garretson Resolution Group. We just want compensation that is rightly due to us because we have suffered enough!!!
