Government Funding Towards NSW Animal Shelters
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!
Thousands of stray, injured and abused animals are turning up in overcrowded shelters accross the state. Many of them face a grim future due to a lack of funding towards adequate care, rescue, treatment, rehabilitation and shelter.
The current organizations which provide these services such as the RSPCA and Animal Welfare League rely solely on donations. These organizations are doing an amazing job but unfortunately they do not raise enough funds from donations alone.
We are calling upon the NSW government to provide funding towards animal shelters which would allow them to create more housing, implement better processes and stategies, advertise, provide behavioral training and rehabilitation, provide thorough medical treatment, prevent animal abuse and minimise euthanisia rates for healthy animals.
- NSW has the highest rate of received animals compared to other states
- In 2016, the RSPCA alone euthanised 15,739 animals including wildlife and livestock in NSW
- 14,954 animal cruelty reports were investigated by the RSPCA in 2016, of which only 61 successul prosecutions were made
*The statistics are from RSPCA alone and do not account for several other organizations. The rates would be much higher if a state survery was completed.
This information alone proves that the state does not provide enough (if any) funding towards the care, rescue, treatment, rehabilitation and housing of animals.
Please sign this petition to help the animals' voices be heard and make a positive change in NSW.
