Scrap the threshold for a Budgeting Loan To Start Work on Universal Credit.

This petition had 1,828 supporters

People cannot afford to start work on Conservatives Universal Credit system due to the barriers set up in the system of Universal Credit. If a single person earns over two thousand six hundred in the six months previous to getting employment they cannot get financial help to start work and if a couple earns over three thousand six hundred in the last six months either part of the couple is refused a budgeting advance to start work.

Universal Credit is a poverty trap forcing people into poverty and destitution. It needs to be scrapped. The Tories need to review the system and change it to a benefit that will help people into work. If this petition is succeeds millions of claimants will be able to get into work and off the benefit. This will benefit children and families and take people out of poverty. If it does not succeed than millions will be denied the opportunity to work and earn a decent wage. This will result in less money going into the economy and less people in work which would be disaster for the whole country.
