End to unfairness in GCSE and A level exams: research suggests 1 in 4 grades may be wrong.

The Issue

Let's end the lottery of GCSE and A level exams. Research suggests that  1 in 4 GCSE and A level results may be wrong.

There should be one exam board for England, to end the lottery of your child's school choosing the exam board that happens to set the harder exam for that year. Students should sit the same exam across the country, so results are fair.

Grades should be reported as a percentage mark, and grades should be abolished. The new 9-1 grades in GCSE exams have narrowed the grade boundaries. Many students will be sat within a few marks of a higher grade boundary, and Ofqual have changed the system for challenging grades meaning many students could have received the wrong grade and can do little about it.
