Help Fight Re-Zoning Efforts to build ANOTHER Data Center! Attend the Meeting on June 3rd at 6:30PM
Important local update re a new huge data center proposed essentially in our backyards in Hoffman Estates, East Dundee, South Barrington, Barrington Hills, and Barrington: Make your voice heard this Wednesday, 6/3 at 6:30 pm at the Hoffman Estates Municipal Building, 1900 Hassell Road. This may turn out to be the only public hearing about the plan to re-zone Plum Farms to a Manufacturing/Data Center District.
A 3rd massive data center is being proposed for Plum Farms, a 186-acre agricultural property directly across from the South Barrington Arboretum and adjacent homes. Residences on Old Sutton, Penny Road, Higgins Road, and beyond will be dramatically impacted by the noise and pollution these centers produce. If the rezoning to an "M-2 Manufacturing District" is approved, high noise levels and extensive trucking will be permitted. The wastewater will drain into our aquifer, the only one that feeds our wells for cooking, drinking, and bathing. These centers also tend to raise local residential electric rates because they use a tremendous amount of our electrical capacity.
In addition, Plum Farms directly borders Barrington Hills and the Spring Creek Forest Preserve, home to many rare native birds, turtles and other species who will suffer loss of their habitat. There are already two gigantic data centers in the area. We don't need a third! Please voice your objection to the potential economic and environmental damage to humans, to nature, and to our local communities this Wednesday.
We can make a difference if we all come to this re-zoning meeting.
Aurora now has a moratorium on data centers. Naperville residents shut down a proposal for a similarly large data center near their homes-- and the proposal was by data center developer Karis Critical, the very developer who wants to do the same thing here! Together, we can achieve the result that Naperville residents did on a grassroots level: NO DATA CENTERS NEAR HOMES AND FOREST PRESERVES!
