Deny bail for those charged with Maxindona Katjimune's death
The Issue
My brother, Maxindona Katjimune, was taken from us in a tragic and untimely manner under circumstances that have left our family and the community of Okakarara devastated and searching for justice. In this difficult time, we write to you, the Honourable Magistrate at Okakarara Magistrate’s Court, to voice our profound concerns regarding the possibility of bail being granted to the individuals charged in connection with his death.
The loss of Maxindona has not only shattered our family but also sent ripples of fear and insecurity through our community. Granting bail to the accused would only exacerbate our pain and undermine the resolve to find justice and healing. We believe that the circumstances of this case warrant a thorough and uninterrupted judicial process. The fear of potential interference with the investigation and a lack of accountability if the accused are released undermines our trust in the justice system and the safety of our community.
Statistics show that when charged individuals are released on bail in homicide cases, there’s often a risk of them absconding or even intimidating witnesses, thus complicating the pursuit of justice. According to a report published by the Namibian Police Force in 2022, cases of witness intimidation and interference were worryingly prevalent in scenarios where bail was granted. In our small close-knit community, this could jeopardize not just the justice for Maxindona but also set a precedent that endangers the security of everyone.
We urge the Honourable Magistrate to consider these facts and sentiments when deliberating over the bail application for those involved in this case. By withholding bail, the Court can reaffirm its commitment to justice and the protection of the community until the trial is concluded.
Please stand with us in the fight for justice for Maxindona Katjimune. Sign this petition to urge the Okakarara Magistrate’s Court to deny bail to the accused, ensuring they remain in custody during the judicial proceedings. Our community’s safety and the pursuit of justice depend on your support. Let’s make our voices heard loud and clear.
