Around 130 dog walkers have regularly used a field in Hervey Road in Greenwich for years - dogs have been on the field since WW2. There is a wonderful supportive community that has grown up. People of all ages, genders, ethnic backgrounds, healthy and not so healthy, meet regularly on the field and enjoy informal sport walking their dogs. This contributes to their physical and mental well-being, for some this is the only meaningful contact that they have with anyone else all day. People, especially women, feel safe walking their dogs at anytime of day. In the winter it's often in the dark.
The council has decided to hand the field over to the local rugby club who want to ban the dogs. The council have said that we can walk our dogs elsewhere but the two alternatives are places that people have avoided after intimidation and attacks.
All we want is a safe place to walk our dogs and to continue supporting each other.
