STOP SOUTH AFRICA'S DONKEYS FROM BEING BLUDGEONED WITH HAMMERS AND SKINNED ALIVE!

Across South Africa, thousands of donkeys are being brutally slaughtered on a daily basis to satisfy the growing demand for donkey skin gelatin from China. The gelatin is a key ingredient in China's ejiao industry which produces tonics and tablets to supposedly treat insomnia and delay menopause by soaking the skins.
The medicinal value of this gelatin is unproven, and South Africa's donkeys are suffering for it. The NSPCA have raided multiple illegal slaughter sites including a farm in Olifantshoek in the Northern Cape, where donkeys were being bludgeoned with hammers and skinned alive, an isolated site in KwaZulu-Natal where the bodies of dozens of skinned donkeys were discovered and a shack in Benoni where 5000 donkey hides were found.
There is also reason to suspect that the same syndicate is also appropriating the feet and heads of lions, as 6 lions were found this past week, decapitated and without their feet. Lion heads and feet are also used to make similar tonics, pills and syrups in the Far East.
We are of the opinion that the South African government is doing very little to end the illegal slaughter of donkeys and that these gentle creatures, many of whom are stolen, are handled and killed in the most cruel manner. We call on the Democratic Alliance, who are the only political party in South Africa to recognize the sentience of animals, to raise this urgent matter in Parliament.
We are vehemently against the brutal slaughter of donkeys and the export of their skins to the Far East, and call for an immediate end to this practice.
