Petition updateDemanding an Environmental Impact Statement on Tweed HVN Airport Expansion

Help us tell the FAA why we need an EIS for Tweed New Haven

3/28/23: Following the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA), the FAA is now preparing to decide on the proposed Tweed New Haven airport expansion following the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) report released March 2nd.

Public comment deadline is May 1st. The FAA will take comments then decide for:

  • either a FONSI (Finding of No Significant Impact), which would greenlight construction to start in 2023-24;
  • or an EIS (Environmental Impact Statement), meaning a more comprehensive environmental review before the project advances – our best hope to stall a massive expansion.

Three ways you can help us affect the FAA’s determination:

  1. Share the petition with family, friends, and neighbors.
  2. Submit written comments on the Draft EA to hvn-ea@mjinc.com
  3. Attend 4/1 public meeting at East Haven High School with us and demand an EIS, then press US Rep. DeLauro, Sens. Blumenthal, Murphy

You have a role to play here. More signatures on the petition will surely help. Submitting a written comment on the EA makes an even greater difference.

  • Email us at saveourshorelinect@gmail.com for tips on writing a high-impact letter to the FAA.
  • You can access the EA report here, but don’t get lost in it. 1,500+ pages of technical detail amount to one major greenwash.

Lastly, thank you. It was lonely at first, but your signatures helped create an opening. Consider that:

  • Since Oct 2022, over 2,000 community members have signed our petition demanding an EIS.
  • In October not one elected official supported an EIS for Tweed; now seven (7) local electeds have taken our position and written the FAA to demand an EIS; next we need to move our US representatives in Washington.
