Hello everyone,
There is a safe effective way to Air Condition the Cargo area of the trucks. I have identified a company called Fresair, and have been in communication with the owner Eric Schuckman. Fresair is a 12-volt roof mounted air cooler that can be installed on new UPS trucks or retrofitted on existing trucks. Their system has no impact on the engine or fuel and is completely eco-friendly running off the trucks excisting 12-volt battery.
The unit would be turned on at the beginning of the day and runs until the driver's shift is over. Most importantly the Fresair is running when the truck is turned off during the during the countless stops throughout the day! This system is in use in throughout The States, Europe, and South America as an alternative to traditional AC. Since trucks are legally not permitted to idle during stops, traditional AC would be deemed ineffective, however as mentioned,Fresair continues to run while the vehicle is off, without any impact to the vehicle's battery.
Fresair is on board to help the drivers with the understanding that the drivers are the most important asset to the organization. Lastly, Fresair has agreed to providing UPS a discount to help get the ball rolling.
With a viable effective solution to cool the CARGO area, it really comes down to UPS. Will they still put profits over their driver's lives?
