The Issue

Imagine waking up one day to find that a baseless rumour about your health is being spread across a major social media platform, tarnishing your reputation and impacting your daily life. This is the harsh reality that numerous individuals are currently facing due to a TikTok page known as @hiv.mixup.page. This page indiscriminately labels people as HIV positive, regardless of their actual health status, causing inconceivable harm.

In many cases, this page shares pictures of people I personally know, falsely claiming they have HIV. This defamatory behaviour not only breaches privacy but also enforces harmful stigmas around HIV, further isolating affected individuals who may or may not have the virus. The psychological and emotional damage caused by such reckless and unfounded allegations is profound. People are being harassed and humiliated publicly, with repercussions that could affect their personal and professional lives for years.

TikTok, as a widely-used platform with significant global influence, has a responsibility to protect its users from such malicious activities. The platform's community guidelines explicitly prohibit harassment, cyberbullying, and the spreading of misinformation. We call upon TikTok to act urgently and decisively by removing the @hiv.mixup.page and implementing stricter measures to prevent similar pages from surfacing in the future.

This action is not only about justice for those targeted but is also necessary to uphold the integrity of online communities and safeguard the wellbeing of all TikTok users. We have seen how misinformation and online harassment can destroy lives, and it is imperative that platforms like TikTok take a firm stance against such injustices.

Please sign this petition to demand that TikTok immediately take down the @hiv.mixup.page and adopt a zero-tolerance policy against any form of discrimination and defamation via their platform. By standing together, we can ensure that everyone can enjoy a safe, respectful, and truthful digital space.
