My daughter was subjected to a terrifying experience at Theunissen Combined School when a grade 1 boy locked her in a bathroom and sexually assaulted her. This nightmarish event not only traumatized her but also shattered my trust in the institution that is supposed to be a place of learning and safety. However, what added insult to injury was the school's disturbing response. The incident was not reported immediately, and when I sought answers, I was met with shocking indifference and evasiveness from the school administration.

Unfortunately, this isn't an isolated incident. Theunissen Combined School has increasingly become a breeding ground for criminal activities, making it an unsafe environment for our children. Our cry for help is met with ignorance and a lack of empathy from school authorities. The principal appears uninterested in the safety and well-being of our students, leaving parents like myself feeling hopeless and helpless.

We cannot stand by while the future of our children is jeopardized. This is why we urgently need The Department of Education MEC, Dr. Maboya, to hear our cries and take immediate action. Dr. Maboya, as the leader responsible for the education and safety of our children, we ask you to investigate these serious lapses in Theunissen Combined School and enforce mandatory safety measures to protect our students.

A comprehensive plan should be implemented to ensure stringent security measures, including the installation of surveillance cameras at key areas, the presence of trained security personnel on school grounds, and a zero-tolerance policy for any form of criminal or inappropriate behavior. Furthermore, mandatory training programs for the staff on how to handle such situations with sensitivity and urgency are critical.

We also demand an open and transparent approach from the school in communicating with parents regarding safety incidents and protocols. Our children's safety is non-negotiable, and we deserve answers and actions that will restore our trust and confidence in the educational system.
