South Africa wants special trade privileges w/ the USA while showing hostility to the West & Israel
This is a really good editorial by Ivor Ichikowitz on the importance of AGOA to South Africa and how South Africa really needs to stop taking positions on the international stage that are so blatantly hostile to the West (and Israel):
However, the only way South Africa will amend its pro-Russian, pro-Hamas, and anti-Israel positions will be to have something valuable taken away from them. And that valuable thing is its special trade privileges it gets to enjoy through AGOA.
One other encouraging update is that Senator Coons (DE) has introduced an AGOA discussion draft, extending the program, but specifically calling for South Africa to under go an immediate review of their eligibility.
