In light of the Howard County Office of Human Rights Report, the community members of Howard County, Maryland demand the resignation of Sheriff James Fitzgerald.

The report concluded that Sheriff Fitzgerald:

• Harassed and intimated people by threats, verbal abuse, less desirable assignments and schedules, and intimidating behavior. 
• Engages in a pattern of verbal abuse, harassment and intimidation.
• Intentionally created an abusive hostile work environment.
• Made derogatory, sexist and racist comments.

As Howard County Executives have stated, this behavior is “deplorable,” and has “no place in our society.” Fitzgerald does not represent the principles of civility and diversity on which Howard County stands.

By signing this petition, I demand that James Fitzgerald immediately resign from his position as Sheriff and without continued benefits from the Howard County government.
