Change.org asks for small voluntary donations so that our petition gets prominence on their own site among a huge number of other petitions and can get more people to sign. This is known as donors being 'promoters' and means Change.org shows more views to people who are likely to sign it derived from tags and categories As the admin, Change.org shows me how many extra signatures they claim have resulted from the donations.
