The Issue

Ekurhuleni -  dark cloud hangs over it—the rampant and horrifying Gender-Based Violence (GBV) against women. I am writing this petition because I am tired of seeing our community members live in constant fear and anxiety. It breaks my heart to read news headlines every day about yet another woman whose life has been brutally lost or irreparably damaged.

Statistics from recent reports paint a grim picture of GBV's prevalence. South Africa has one of the highest rates of gender-based violence in the world. According to a study by the South African Medical Research Council, more than half of women in our country have experienced violence at some point in their lives. In Ekurhuleni alone, the numbers are terrifyingly high, with police departments overwhelmed by the volume of GBV cases.

We, the citizens, demand concrete actions:

1. **Prioritize GBV in emergency services**: Establish a dedicated task force to respond rapidly to cases of GBV in Ekurhuleni, ensuring that survivors receive the help and support they need promptly. Perpetrators must be apprehended!

2. **Allocate sufficient resources to address GBV**:  Ensure visible policing! City Police vehicles patrolling streets. FIX street lighting! Clean overgrown areas!!! Do your jobs!

3. Deeply all government departments to DO THEIR work! Make the municipality safe!

4. **Holding leaders accountable**: We call upon the mayor of Ekurhuleni to speak out, take responsibility, and lead this fight against GBV with transparency and determination.

Please join me in this urgent call for action. Let's push for a safer Ekurhuleni where we no longer have to read about lives senselessly lost to gender-based violence. Don't warn us to be careful; do your jobs and make our communities safe. Let's stand together and say **NOT ONE MORE LIFE. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.** Sign this petition and demand action now!
