Demand the Immediate Release of Afiya
Demand the Immediate Release of Afiya
The Issue
Afiya, a humanitarian worker, is currently being held without due process, against all norms of justice and decorum. Her continued detention is a disheartening illustration of the ongoing systemic violations of fundamental human rights. Based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Article 9), "No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile." Yet, Afiya remains under arrest without any proof of wrongdoing.
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) also asserts the right for a fair trial, which Afiya has been denied. Beyond the direct impact on Afiya and her family, her continued unjust detention sends a chilling message to other humanitarian workers around the globe; that they too can be subjected to similar arbitrary and baseless detentions.
We believe in justice, fairness, and the basic human rights of all individuals. Hence, we implore international human rights bodies, governmental and non-governmental organizations all over the world to actively advocate for and facilitate the immediate release of Afiya. Join us, raise your voice, and let it echo until Afiya is free again. Please sign this petition now to show your solidarity and support. Justice delayed is justice denied.
