Canada increases funding to Canadian Red Cross to $30 million
Canada on February 25 announced a $10 million matching fund for gifts by individuals to the Canadian Red Cross Society for their Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal. Then Canada’s matching fund for the Canadian Red Cross has been increased to $30 million which is a lot of money. It appears that that target has now been met.
We recognize the generosity of Canadians and their desire to assist those affected by Russia's invasion of Ukraine and thank them from the bottom of our hearts!
We continue to call on the Canadian Red Cross to show us how they are deploying this money to the war-torn country. We continue to ask the Canadian Red Cross for transparency.
As the crisis in Ukraine enters another dramatic stage, the Canadian Red Cross has done very little to tell us about their efforts on the ground in Ukraine. To this date we have only heard about their work in adjacent countries in facilitating the arrival of refugees. This is important, but it is also necessary to do work on the ground and tell us HOW they are helping those Ukrainians that are stranded in their cities, some of whom are left without access to clean water, food and medication. THIS is where their work is needed the most!
Over the last three weeks, the Canadian Red Cross did not even find the time to update their website beyond their Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal!
We continue to call on the Canadian Red Cross to deliver Aid to Ukraine NOW and tell us, Canadians, how they are helping Ukrainians in Ukraine, instead of doing photo ops and media interviews on the work they are doing in Hungary, or elsewhere in Europe. It is disingenuous to raise money for Ukraine without telling us how exactly this money will be used.
