A material official development: on July 22, 2026, the Federal Government formally responded to the parliamentary petition. It confirmed that the request for a Robert Bateman exhibition has been shared with the National Gallery of Canada’s curatorial staff for review.

This matters because the proposal has moved beyond public advocacy and reached the Gallery’s exhibition-review process.

It is not an exhibition commitment — the Gallery says it will weigh the idea against its "exhibition priorities".

It is, however, the first documented institutional response.
